Divers and volunteers removed 1,00 pounds of debris and garbage from Brome Lake on Saturday in collaboration with Renaissance Brome Lake and Faisons notre part, an organization based in Shawinigan that helps clean up Quebec’s waterways.

It was a massive undertaking for everyone involved. Divers were particularly busy, pulling out a variety of miscellaneous items, including tires, bottles, plastic, goggles, ice fishing gears, toys, cables, cans, a cone and a chair. Any glass picked out of the glass was brought to a landfill.

According to a press release, there were about 20 volunteer divers involved in the clean up. They used the Domaine des Érables campsite as a base, since it has easy access to the lakefront. The “litter hunt” began around 10 a.m. and ended at 4 p.m. with a mountain of trash.
