Potton Valley Church would like to thank the community for its massive support in aid of Ukraine. On Saturday, April 9th with rainy weather threatening the success of a pork BBQ, people turned out in droves primarily from Mansonville, Knowlton, and Sutton to support Ukraine. Over 590 plates of food were served and over $15,000 raised to support humanitarian aid to Ukraine through the Red Cross.
Special thanks to church members Jason and Lynn Bedard and family for bringing their mechoui skills and tireless energy to make the event a success. Young and old donated time directing traffic, collecting funds, making poutine, assembling dinner plates, and of course washing pots and pans.
Potton Valley Church assumed all the outlay costs for the event so that 100% of what was given could go directly to aid the Ukraine. Many people spoke of their Ukrainian friends and relatives and expressed their gratitude for the fundraiser. There were also many spontaneous acts of generosity; one women coming down from Montreal for the weekend, saw what was going and gave $100 on the spot without collecting a meal.
The Red Cross rep, Vincent Jarry, was on hand at the end of the day, to collect a cheque, and he couldn’t believe the total. He remarked that, after all that this wasn’t Magog, and that the amount of money raised was truly amazing.
