Last Saturday night, members of the Executive of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch no. 99, in Cowansville, paid homage to its extensive group of volunteers.

There were two sittings of expertly cooked steaks with crispy fries as a side with a salad and delicious mushroom gravy. The first group ate at 5 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. At each seating, the volunteers were thanked for their service. Some members and associates received anniversary pins, some extending as far as honouring forty-five years of service to the Legion!

The Legion has its brunch every second Sunday. The next one will be Sunday, May 15th from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For a reasonable cost a full-scale breakfast is created by the wonderful volunteer chefs and servers.

Next Friday, President Robert Bouthot will be going to Heroes’ Memorial School to hand out cash prizes and books to 43 winning students in both the poster and writing divisions of the Remembrance Day contest. The books were donated by the Yamaska Literacy Council in honour of Vicky Swift-Bouthot who was a revered employee of the YLC and an active member of the Legion.
