One-year paid internship for reporter

The Record has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter to join its newsroom staff for a one-year paid internship.

Job start date: May1, 2024

Job end date: Aug. 8, 2025

The Job
The intern will work in the newsroom under the direction of the editor on daily assignments which include:

– covering press conferences, municipal council and school board meetings, school and local sports
– interviewing and writing feature stories about people and initiatives in the Eastern Townships.

The successful candidate will also be required to take pictures to accompany stories, plan and paginate pages for publication in the newspaper and upload stories to the web site and social media.

Requirements
A university degree in a relevant field is required, and preference will be given, but not limited to, recent graduates who meet the criteria.
The intern must be able to:
-work independently
-Demonstrate flexibility
-Be deadline-driven to meet newsroom deadlines and demands
-Possess excellent English-language writing skills
-Be meticulous in fact-checking
-Be capable of conducting interviews and following meetings in French

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of issues relevant to the community, and be familiar with basic computer programs, web technology and social media. A vehicle is necessary to cover The Record’s vast territory.
